Why I love Autumn!

Autumn, is without a doubt my favourite time of year. Yes, I am one of those annoying people that once we’ve had a week of warmth and sunshine, I am wishing it away and praying for that cold, crisp weather where I can wear beanie hats and cosy jumpers. I have become such a big fan of list blog posts, so I thought I would tell you why Autumn is my ALL TIME FAVE.

Beanie hats. I absolutely love beanie hats. Of course, they keep your head nice and toasty during the colder months, but also, how good do they look?! They add so much more to an outfit and in my opinion, pulls the whole look together. I am starting to develop quite the collection and, they are the perfect thing to wear when you’re having a bad hair day.

Scarves. Like beanie hats, I think scarves make any Autumn outfit look 10x better! Big, chunky, woolly scarves – I love them!

Ankle boots. As most of my friends and family will know, I am the least girly person when it comes to clothes and shoes. I live in my Converse and my Vans, so when it gets a bit colder and the ankle boots come out, that is as girly as I’m ever gonna get, and I kinda like it.

Hot drinks. To be honest, I’m still a lover of hot drinks in the Summer too, but there is just something super cosy about having a hot chocolate or a cup of tea when it’s cold outside. Plus, is there really anything more Autumnal than a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Candles. I am obsessed with candles, particularly at this time of year. Cinnamon, especially. I love any warm, spicy scents. They are perfect for lazy days in, and just make any day feel warm and cosy. I am obsessed with Yankee Candle ‘Sparkling Cinnamon’, I have the candles, the car air fresheners, the ones you put in the vents, the lot. I love them.

The makeup. This is quite possibly my favourite part of Autumn. I love being able to go slightly smokier on the eyes, and dark purple and plum on the lips. My go-to Autumn lipstick is Glastonberry by Charlotte Tilbury. And, I am loving the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette; it is the perfect palette full of Autumnal shades – deep reds, burnt oranges, and dark, smoky browns.

Say goodbye to bright, pastel nails, and hello to khaki, wine and plum shades. Admittedly, I do love pastel shades during Summer, but I am SO excited to be able to wear darker shades (not that I didn’t anyway, but it just feels much more appropriate).

Leaves. Is it just me that finds it so unbelievably satisfying to stand and walk on crunchy leaves?

Lush. This is probably one of my all time fave things about Autumn. I am OBSESSED with Lush products; bath bombs, bubble bars shower gels, the lot. I use Lush bath bombs etc, all year round, even on the hottest of days; there is nothing more relaxing or comforting than a bath using a whole load of Lush products, especially after a stressful day. I am even more obsessed when the seasonal products come out; the warm, spicy scents, I love how cute and festive everything is! I can’t tell you how excited I am for the Autumn/Winter range to be released next week (I will of course be doing a big ol’ Lush Haul when I manage to get my hands on everything!).

Pyjamas. Oh my goodness. Is there really anything better than getting all wrapped in a pair of super cosy, festive patterned pjs after having a Lush bath? I think not.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know what your favourite things are about Autumn!

COLLAB: High-End, Mid-Year Faves

Hello lovelies, I hope you’re all enjoying your Summer so far! What has everyone been up to?

So, this week’s post is going to be slightly different as it is a collaboration with the lovely Lauren (check out her blog here). I am super excited as this is my first blogging collaboration! This week is going to be part one of our mid-year favourites, so we are going to be chatting you through the high-end bits and pieces that we have been loving so far this year, and next time, will be our drugstore faves.

My first favourite is NARS Sheer Glow. I have tried so many different foundations and I always, always, always come back to this one. It just works absolutely perfectly for me. It blends beautifully, it gives a medium to full coverage, giving you that gorgeous ‘glow from within’ look. It lasts all day, doesn’t crease or transfer and applies really well with fingers, a brush, or a beauty blender. Even though it does give a very dewy, glowy look, it is still perfect for all year round and is certainly something I could not be without.

The Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm is something that I use every single day. I cannot even explain how good this product is. A lot of people say to me, “I can’t believe that you spend that much on something that just takes your makeup off!”. But, I honestly believe that you can’t put a price on your skincare routine and taking care of my skin is super important to me. This doesn’t just remove my makeup, but it cleanses my skin and plays a really crucial part in my skincare routine. I have been using this product for almost a year now and I have tried many other cleansing oils and makeup removing products but nothing else seems to compare or does the job just as good. I don’t suffer from break-outs that often, my skin is fairly clear and I genuinely think that this product has a lot to do with that. It is definitely worth the price tag!

Now, onto Lauren’s faves…

lauren hoola

I have used this bronzer by Benefit every day since I purchased it. Admittedly, I purchased it very recently, but I couldn’t not include it in my yearly beauty favourites. I’ve tried a lot of bronzers and contour kits etc etc but I’ve never come across one as easy to blend as this! For someone who is rubbish at all things contouring, it’s perfect. It is a little pricey for just a little box of bronzer (£23.50) but personally I think it’s worth it. I’m yet to hit pan and I get a lot of use out of it!

I think almost every single blogger in the blogosphere has an opinion on Becca x Jaclyn Hill’s cult Champagne Pop highlighter. Personally, I love it – I’ve used it almost every day since purchasing it and I am so upset to say that I have hit pan. This won’t be expensive to replace once it runs out (£32) but I 100% will because I couldn’t live without it! It looks extremely orangey in photos (and, admittedly in real life) but it gives off the most amazing glow. I like to use a second highlighter over the top to intensify the glow, but you definitely don’t need to. I just like to stop traffic with my highlight.

NYX Haul!

I’m sure you can all imagine my excitement when I saw that my local Boots had opened its very own NYX stand. It only opened yesterday so I headed into town first thing to check it out and I was VERY impressed to say the least.

Now, I am fairly certain that my collection of NYX products is going to expand every time I go into my local Boots store. Everything is such good quality and for such reasonable prices, it’s hard not to walk away with half of the stand! I haven’t tried anything from NYX before, so I tried not to go too overboard *just incase*, but after trying everything out as soon as I got home, it’s safe to say I will be having another little spree in the very near future (most probably tomorrow!).

So, let’s get onto the good stuff; what did I buy?

I headed straight towards the liquid lipsticks section. Oh my goodness, there were just SO many to choose from and after spending far too much time deciding which ones to get, I managed to narrow it down to four. Why didn’t I just buy them all? All of the liquid lipsticks I got were from the Liquid Suede range and the shades I chose were Sandstorm, Soft-Spoken, Vintage and the slightly more daring, Stone Fox.

Sandstorm was a shade I had already fallen head over heals in love with before I had even seen it in person. I have seen so many people rave about this colour and I can completely see why. This is the perfect brown-toned nude. This would look gorgeous in the Autumn time with a gold smoky eye, or with a neutral colour all over the lid and a dark brown in the crease for all year round.

Soft-Spoken is another nude (surprise, surprise), but with mauve undertones. This is ideal for everyday wear and would go with most makeup looks. I think this shade is so universal and would go with most skin tones and is great for all-year-round.

Vintage is only what I can describe as a ‘me’ shade. This is such a lovely plum shade, again with slightly mauve undertones to it. This just screams Autumn and Winter; my fave times of the year!

Stone Fox is a little bit more ‘out there’. This is a very deep grey, with navy undertones and I just knew that I had to buy it as soon as I saw it. Again, this would look great throughout the colder months with a simple winged liner look.

I have tried them all out briefly and they are super comfortable to wear and really easy to apply. They don’t crack, flake or dry out lips like some other liquid lipsticks do. I am so excited to try them all out more thoroughly.

I also picked up a lip liner in the shade Sand Beige. This is a really soft and creamy nude lip liner with slightly mauve undertones to it. This would look great on it’s own or paired with any nude lipstick or lip gloss.

*bottom to top* (sandstorm, soft-spoken, vintage, stone fox, sand beige).IMG_2727

The last thing I got was the much-loved and talked about, Highlight and Contour Pro Palette. This palette consists of eight gorgeous shades.

Ice Queen is a stunning pearly white, frosted highlight, which you can apply sparingly for a more subtle look, or build it up as much as you want. It would also look great as an inner corner and brow bone highlight. Soft Light is a matte nude shade with slightly pink undertones, which could be used as a setting powder for those of you ladies with paler skin, or as a subtle, matte highlight. Cream is a stunning, super soft, matte yellow shade which is absolutely perfect for setting under your eyes. Nectar is a warm toned peach shade with shimmer running through. It isn’t as frosted as Ice Queen but is a lovely highlight shade that would look amazing with a tan and give you a healthy looking glow!

The first contour shade is Tan. This is a soft matte brown with a slight reddish undertone to it. Toffee is a warm toned, muted brown shade which has a slight bit of shimmer running through it. This would also make a lovely bronzer shade. Sculpt is the perfect contour shade. It is a medium brown with grey/ashy undertones to it, making it ideal for contouring with and creating the desired shadow effect. Hollow is a very deep, matte brown which isn’t as scary as it looks!

*bottom to top* (ice queen, soft light, cream, nectar, tan, toffee, sculpt, hollow).IMG_2737

That is everything from my little NYX haul. I will update you as I try out these products more thoroughly, however I am sure that they won’t disappoint! Let me know what you think of the products from NYX or if you can recommend anything that you think I might like!

Summer Beauty Haul

So over the past couple of days, I have either ordered online, or picked up quite a few bits from Boots and Superdrug, so I thought it was only right to do a little haul. Actually, I bought more than I realised so I will be doing two separate hauls; a beauty haul and a skincare haul.

Starting with all things make-up and beauty…

I went slightly OTT in Superdrug as they had a 3 for 2 offer across all cosmetics – well, it’d be rude not to, eh?

I am obsessed with matte liquid lipsticks and when I saw that Tanya Burr had released some, I had to try them out. The shade I picked up was Martha Moo, and this is the perfect nude shade with pink, mauvey undertones. It looks quite bright when you first apply it but darkens slightly as it dries. It doesn’t dry out my lips, or have that sticky consistency that others do, it is really comfortable to wear. The packaging of this product, and the rest of Tanya Burr Cosmetics, is absolutely gorgeous. They feel very luxurious considering the prices of the products and the products are of such high quality. I cannot wait for my local store to stock more of these products so I can try more out, I am particularly excited for the new eye shadow palettes!

Something that I have been desperate to try for ages, but has always been out of stock in my local store, is the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer in the shade 01. I am yet to find a concealer that beats the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, so I am excited to try this one out and see how the two compare!

Not that I needed any new mascaras, but I picked up two new releases. The first one is by Maybelline and this is the Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara. I could not get on with the original Lash Sensational at all, as much as I tried and tried, it just wasn’t for me, however, I thought I’d give this one a try. The brush on this is very different to the original Lash Sensational and Maybelline describes it as an “extraordinary patented fanning brush”. I have used this a couple of times and so far, so good! It grabs every lash and really does give that “multiplying effect” that it promises to give.

The other mascara I bought is another new release, but by L’Oreal and this is the Miss Hippie Mega Volume Mascara. This mascara has a bristle brush as opposed to a plastic brush, and really lengthens and volumises lashes, giving them a feathery, fluttery finish. I have only used this a handful of times but I am loving this so far and can’t wait to use it some more.

Another new release by Rimmel is the Brow This Way range. I picked up the Highlighting Pencil and the Brow Styling Gel. I am a big fan of brow gels, I think they really help improve the appearance of brows, making them look sharper and more defined so I can’t wait to try this out – I got the shade Dark Brown. I have been searching high and low for a drugstore brow highlighting pencil so I was super excited when I saw that Rimmel had released one. I tend to use a regular highlighter as a brow bone highlight, so I am really looking forward to trying this out.

Another new product from Rimmel is the 24hr Wear Colour Precise Eyeliner. The L’Oreal Superliner is my all time favourite eyeliner; however, I am always on the look-out for something even better. The shape of this eyeliner looks like it will be ideal for creating the perfect winged liner.

From Barry M, I picked up a lip liner in the shade 17 which is a nude shade with brown undertones. It lasts really well and looks lovely paired with MAC’s Whirl or Velvet Teddy. I am super impressed and will definitely be picking up some more shades! I also picked up two nail varnishes from Barry M. I got the shade Dark Side of the ‘Shroom from the Sunset Daylight Curing range and Copper Mine from the new Molten Metal range. Barry M are my favourite brand for nail varnishes, the quality of them are amazing and they last such a long time.

From Revlon, I picked up the ColorStay Foundation in the shade Buff. I have never tried this foundation before and have heard such great things about it, and seeing as I am on the hunt for a new drugstore foundation, I thought I’d give it a try. I got this in the satin finish for normal/dry skin as I much prefer a dewy, glowy look as opposed to a matte finish, especially for this time of year.

The final thing, I ordered from Beauty Bay and is definitely more of a high-end purchase than high-street. This is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance eye shadow palette. I cannot get over how stunning this palette is! The packaging is really luxurious; a mauvey-pink colour and is also suede. Each and every shade is absolutely beautiful and I am SO excited to experiment with this palette! I will be doing a detailed review on this palette once I have tried and tested it out properly!

That is everything make-up wise, that I bought recently! I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know your thoughts on any of these products or if you can recommend anything else you think I might like!

High-End Haul

Over the past few weeks, I have picked up a few beauty bits and pieces that are more high-end as opposed to drugstore. I did a cheeky Space NK online order and picked up a few bits from Debenhams and Selfridges.

First of all, I ordered two things from Space NK that I have wanted for such a long time, but always hesitated in buying them. However, I decided to just go for it, and I am SO glad that I did. I ordered the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in the shade Medium.

Oh. My. Goodness. I cannot explain how amazing this product is. It is completely different to a bronzer and any other contour products that I have used. It has quite a grey undertone to it as opposed to more brown and orange, making it the perfect contour shade. This immediately made it into my everyday makeup bag and I have been using it every single day for the past three weeks.

The next thing I purchased from Space NK was one of the oh-so famous, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders in Luminous Light. I went into Space NK when I went to the Glamour Beauty Festival back in March and didn’t pick one up and I instantly regretted it. I am so, so happy with this powder. This is perfect for keeping oil and shine at bay, yet doesn’t make your skin look flat or matte, it gives it a really lovely luminous, glowy look. I think Dim Light is going to be next on my list…

From Debenhams, I picked up the Too Faced Chocolate Bar eye shadow palette. I was a bit reluctant at first because I had never tried anything from Too Faced before but I am so glad that I bought it. This has the perfect variety of shades, both matte and shimmer and is so versatile, you can create so many different looks from this palette! It smells absolutely amazing too (like chocolate). This palette has completely taken over my Urban Decay NAKED Palettes and I cannot wait to add more Too Faced products to my collection, the Sweet Peaches Palette is going to be next I think.

From Selfridges, I picked up the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. The ladies at the CT counter were so lovely and super friendly and complimented me on my own makeup  (how lovely of them!) before matching me to find the right shade for me (shade 4). I love the packaging of the foundation and the formulation of it is gorgeous. I have found that the best way to apply the foundation is with a very damp beauty blender and it gives a flawless, demi-matte finish to your skin.

Spring and Summer is the perfect time to add a lot more highlighter into your makeup routine. I saw the new Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighters and I knew immediately that I needed one. I chose the shade Sin as I think it best suits my skin tone. It isn’t too in your face and gives your skin a gorgeous glowy finish. It is super pigmented and there is zero fall-out from this product. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I also picked up a lipstick from MAC and I got the shade Whirl. I love the consistency and the formulation of the MAC lipsticks, particularly the matte ones as they last a really long time and don’t dry out my lips! Whirl is quite a dark nude, with brown and mauve undertones to it. It is quite different to the typical nude lipstick, and is actually quite similar to Persistence, also by MAC, although it is slightly less bold and dramatic.

That is everything from my high-end haul. I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have tried any of the products that I have mentioned or if you have any recommendations for me!

Drugstore Beauty Haul

Seeing as there are several new products that have graced our drugstores recently, I thought I would go and check them out for myself. There are also a few other things I picked up, that I was either repurchasing or that I just wanted to try that aren’t new releases.

The first thing that I couldn’t wait to buy, was the Max Factor Voluptuous False Lash Effect Mascara. The wand “wonder brush”, on this mascara really intrigued me as it is very different to any of the other mascaras that I own. I was slightly reluctant as thicker wands, like the Maybelline Lash Sensational create clumpy looking lashes, which I’m not a huge fan of, so I tend to stick to thinner wands, like Benefit Roller Lash. However, I was SO wrong! I have been using this mascara for a few days now and it does not make my eyelashes clumpy looking at all. It gives my lashes length and volume, as well as combing and separating them, which I absolutely love!

Something else I was super excited to try out was the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colours, and seeing as they were on a 3 for 2 at Boots, I couldn’t not buy them. I am trying to venture out of my comfort zone of nudes and dark berry toned lipsticks, so I bought a variation of shades; Seduction, Devotion and Passion. I am yet to find a matte, liquid lip colour that ticks all of the boxes so I am really interested to see the formulation of these products and how well they last on the lips – I’ll keep you posted!

left to right; seduction, devotion, passion.

The next thing I picked up was the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen in the shade 01 Blackest Black. I bought one of these months ago, used it a few times and then completely forgot about it! So, as I was rearranging and sorting through my makeup collection, I came across this and forgot how much I loved it! The one I had in my drawer had dried out so I went out and bought another one. Actually, Superdrug had a buy one get one half price, so I bought two – oops. This is the perfect product for creating a cat-eye flick, it is so quick and easy to use! I am forever buying and trying different liquid eyeliners and this one is definitely in my top three, along with the L’Oreal Superliner and the Soap and Glory Supercat.

I headed over to the Rimmel stand as I wanted to repurchase the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation in the shade True Ivory. This product gives the skin a healthy, radiant glow. I always use this during Spring and Summer as I don’t like to use anything too heavy as we head into the warmer months. This also has a really hydrating formula which is great if you have any dry areas as it doesn’t cling to them! I would really recommend this if you’re looking for a lightweight foundation to create a glowing complexion.

As Rimmel was on a 3 for 2, I thought I’d try the Radiance BB Cream. It is in orange packaging too, so I am assuming it’s part of the same collection as the Wake Me Up foundation. In the Summer, or just when I don’t really feel like wearing foundation, I like to use a BB cream to even out my skin tone and to give it just a little bit of coverage. Also, if I want to give my complexion a particular finish, then I tend to mix a foundation with a BB cream as they tend to be a bit more hydrating and radiant. I am really looking forward to trying this out!

The last thing that I picked up was the Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Illuminating Concealer in the shade Classic Beige. This is a product that I have never really noticed before, but I have seen several Bloggers and Youtubers talk about it recently, so I thought I would give it a go! I really struggle finding a concealer that does the job properly, without breaking me out, so fingers crossed this is the one!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have tried any of the products before and what you think of them, or if you know any products that you think I should try! Also, I hope everybody had a lovely Easter!

Glamour Beauty Festival 2016

Yesterday, me and my friends ventured to London for the Glamour Beauty Festival. It definitely made the 5am start worthwhile!

Our tickets gave us entry to the Saturday morning slot (10am-1:30pm) and booked to go to the Mary Greenwell and Fearne Cotton talk. I chose this talk because I knew that Mary had worked with so many famous faces and makeup is something that I am passionate about so I was really intrigued to hear what she had to say about the industry!

We caught the train from Derby station at 7am and at arrived at St. Pancreas at around half past eight. And, eventually, after getting on the wrong tube and having to completely redirect, we arrived at the Saatchi Gallery in Sloane Square; I don’t quite know how we made it on time!

As we entered the gallery, we were welcomed by so many lovely members of staff who gave us a map of where everything was (YES, there was that much going on, that you needed a map!). Naturally, I made my way up to the makeup and skin care sections first where I was greeted by all things Elizabeth Arden, Liz Earle, NARS and Laura Mercier – heaven, right? We had a good look around and received some very good advice from the professionals.

There was a wall full of previous Glamour covers and a whole wall covered with quotes from so many iconic people!

We made our way over to the hair section, where all of us were treated to a complimentary hair do at the Redken Done/Undone Bar. Redken were also handing out free samples of hair products, I received the Diamond Oil and the Multi-Benefit Treatment – thanks Redken!

The talk with Mary Greenwell and Fearne Cotton was so fascinating and inspiring. I am such a big fan of Fearne, and was so intrigued to hear more about Mary’s life and career as a makeup artist. It was so inspiring to hear how much of an important part makeup and beauty has played throughout her life and how she got to where she is now. It was amazing to see some of the people that she had worked with too!

IMG_0123 (1)IMG_0150 (1)IMG_0121

Not to forget the Chandon Bar where over 18s could enjoy a free glass of bubbly and of course, the Glamour Shop. Which, I am really kicking myself about for not buying the mug, the t-shirt, or any of the goodie bags that were for sale – not that I didn’t already have enough with my free goodie bag! But, if anyone knows if these are still available to purchase, let me know!

The Goodie Bag was such an amazing bonus, with products worth well over £150! There were some incredible items in this bag, including my beloved Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish! Here are the items that were included in my goodie bag;

  • Balance Me Congested Skin Serum
  • Benefit Roller Lash Mascara (travel size)
  • GHD Straight and Smooth Spray
  • Illamasqua Nail Polish
  • Rimmel Love Glitter Nail Lacquer
  • Sally Hanson Hard as Nails
  • Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, with Muslin Cloth
  • Laura Mercier Deluxe Size Lip Glacé in Pink Pop
  • Redken Fashion Work 1 2 Hair Spray
  • Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream – Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment
  • NARS Lip Gloss in Gold Digger
  • Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb
  • Lancôme Bi-Facil
  • OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner

I am such a big fan of Glamour Magazine and the editor, Jo Elvin, who I did see but didn’t actually get chance to meet or speak to! However, I had so much fun and would most definitely go again! I just hope next time (if there is a next time), they offer full day tickets, or even a weekend pass because I would have loved to attend all of the talks and it is SO hard to choose just one!

Thanks, Glamour, I had a brilliant time!
