Top High Street Face Masks

Face masks are a huge part of my skincare routine. I try and do a face mask twice a week, or whenever my skin is particularly bad.

Here are some of my top high-street face masks.

The L’Oreal Blemish Rescue Mask is one of my faves for when my skin just feels a bit meh. If I’m a bit spotty, hormonal, my skin is just a bit uneven and doesn’t look too great, this does the job. It’s soothing and really helps calm my skin down. I love the rest of the L’Oreal face mask range too, but this is my absolute favourite.

The Soap and Glory Radiance Boosting Sheet Mask is THE BEST face mask if your skin is looking a bit dull and lack lustre and you’re after a bit of a glow. I am really into sheet masks at the minute and the whole Soap and Glory range is fab. This is my go-to if my skin is crying out for some radiance and glow. Origins also so amazing sheet masks – highly recommend.

fave facemasks

The Ordinary Peeling Solution is quite a harsh face mask and it does tingle quite a bit, but that means it’s working, right? It’s a really deep exfoliation treatment and is perfect if my skin is a bit uneven, feels a bit rough and just needs a bit a lot of TLC. I do have sensitive skin, and it leaves my skin a little red afterwards, but my skin is really, really thankful for this product once a week. I really notice a different when I use this.

If you suffer from large or clogged pores like I do, then charcoal masks are great. I love the Origins Active Charcoal mask, but a cheaper alternative for this is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask. This is great for giving your skin a really thorough detox, and leaves it feel super clean and refreshed afterwards.

These are the four high-street face masks I go to when my skin needs a bit of looking after.

What are your high-street recommendations? Let me know!

How To: Messy, Beachy Waves!

Hello everybody!

Recently, I have had my hair chopped. It isn’t massively short, but compared to what it was, and what I’m used to, it was a huge deal for me. I have never really had short hair, but I’ve always wanted longer hair, and as soon as it actually started growing and got to a certain length, I decided it wasn’t really for me. So, I got the chop. And honestly, I do not regret it in the slightest and I even want to go just a teeeeny bit shorter! Whilst I was having my hair cut, I did have the initial thought of, “sh*t, what am I doing?!”. But I could not have been happier with going through with it, and I now wish I had done it sooner! My hair feels much thicker, and in a much better condition. I find my hair much easier to style, and it looks a heck of a lot better too!

me hair wavy

My go-to style for this length hair is loose, beachy, textured waves. When my hair was longer, I achieved this look with my GHD Platinum Copper Luxe straighteners. However, since cutting my hair, I found it more difficult trying to wave my hair with straighteners. I also think that messy, beachy waves look a lot better on shorter hair. I found that when it was longer it still looked very neat, which wasn’t really what I was going for. So, I decided to get a curling wand to make it a bit easier and to get the look that I really wanted to achieve. It took me a while and I did try about 3 different stylers before I bought the GHD Curve Creative Wand. I have only ever used GHD’s, so I don’t know why I didn’t buy these straight away. These curlers are perfect for all hair types and lengths, but I find it to suit the length of my hair perfectly. Once I’ve created this look, it lasts me around 2 or 3 days with the odd touch-up.

Step 1:

The first thing I do when I want to create this look is wash my hair. Recently, I have been using the L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil shampoo and conditioner. This makes hair feel incredibly soft, and makes it look super healthy and shiny. I love these products and they have made such a difference to the quality of my hair and I can’t wait to try out more from the range!

Step 2:

Next, I towel-dry my hair and spray it with the Lee Stafford Coco Loco Heat Protection spray. I have used Lee Stafford for years and they do some amazing products and I can really tell the difference when I don’t use this! I then partly dry my hair with my Lee Stafford hair dryer. Although, I have had this FOREVER and I am about due for a new one! While my hair is still a bit damp, I spray on some sea salt spray. My favourite is the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray which is incredible, and doesn’t leave any residue or leave my hair feeling all crunchy and stiff, like some others do. This helps give my hair that beachy, fresh out of the sea kinda vibe, which I am totally digging right now. It also makes it a lot easier to curl and helps it to stay in for longer. I find curls never seem to stay in when my hair is freshly washed as it is too soft and silky and the curls just seem to drop out, so this is a life saver!

Step 3:

Now that my hair is dry, I clip up the top section of my hair. Focusing on the bottom half, I take large sections of hair and wrap it around the curling wand, holding it for 5-8 seconds, leaving out a little bit at the ends to give it a messy, tousled look. Each time I take a section of hair, I wrap it around the wand in different directions. This avoids the hair gathering together in one big curl. When I get to the top section of my hair, I do the same and for the pieces at the front, I curl these away from the face as I feel it gives a bit more structure and frames the face a lot more.

Step 4:

The last thing I do is run my fingers roughly through my hair. This helps to loosen the curls. I then apply a small amount of the OUAI Wave Spray through the mid-lengths and ends of my hair and this just gives my hair a bit more hold and volume and gives more of a messy, edgy feel to it, which I LOVE. I bought the travel-size bottle of this spray and it has become an absolute staple to my hair routine, so I will definitely be picking up the full-sized bottle!

And that is how I create loose, beachy waves for shorter hair!

Skincare Haul & First Impressions!

Hello everyone!

So, today I am going to be doing a skincare haul/first impressions post, based on the things I have bought myself over recent months, or things that I received for Christmas and my birthday!

skincare-ft-image

The first thing, is something that I had wanted to try out for ages, but I was so comfortable with the things already in my skincare routine, that I didn’t! This is the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil. I was so used to using my Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm, that I wasn’t sure how I would feel using an oil as opposed to a balm. It took me a little while to get used to using an oil, but it is incredible! It removes makeup so easily, and doesn’t leave my skin feel dry or dehydrated like a few other oils have in the past. It is so easy to use and a little goes a long way! This is something I will definitely repurchase, and has really made me want to try out more products from Clinique!

The next thing is nothing new, and I have spoken about it so many times that I won’t bore you all! But, the Pixi Glow Tonic is absolutely phenomenal. I can’t not use this product. I can’t even explain what it does to my skin, but oh my goodness, can I tell the difference if I don’t use it! I could not be without this and will continue to repurchase over and over again!

L’Oréal have recently released their Pure Clay Face Masks, which I love and have been a huge hit with everybody else! And now, they have released Pure Clay Foam Wash face washes. I couldn’t resist and ended up buying all three; purity wash, glow scrub and detox wash. I am yet to try the purity one, and have only tried the glow scrub and detox wash once or twice, but they seemed to work really well and left my skin feeling so healthy and smooth afterwards. Once I have tried all three of them out properly, I will do a more thorough review!

When it comes to skincare, I love using products that contain charcoal. Charcoal is something that just works so well for me and always leaves my skin feeling amazing. So, chances are, if I see a product containing charcoal, I’m gonna buy it! The Bioré Charcoal Pore Minimiser another new addition to my skincare routine. It just seems to make such a difference to my skin. I haven’t been using it long enough to notice whether it has minimised my pores, but it gently exfoliates and leaves my skin feeling soft, healthy and super clean!

biore-minimiser

Liz Earle is a brand I am a huge fan of! I swear by the Cleanse and Polish for my second, and morning cleanse and I continue to repurchase her products. The Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser, is another repurchase and is quite possibly my all-time favourite moisturiser (yes, a pretty bold statement to make). My skin is so temperamental, and even though I have the odd oily patch, I have come to the conclusion that my skin is dehydrated. A lot of moisturisers just sink straight into my skin and do absolutely nothing. But this product gives my skin the moisture it needs helps keep it nourished and hydrated.

liz-earle

The Body Shop is a brand that never fails to fulfil my skincare needs. I have a few new products from here that I have fallen in love with. The first is the Tee Tree Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution. I am always slightly dubious when trying out Tee Tree as my skin is quite sensitive, however this works so well with my skin! This has helped to control oil, makes my skin look clearer and smoother and has evened out my skin. I love the packaging of the product, and how you use a pipette to distribute it.

tee-tree

The final skincare product, again from The Body Shop is the Oils of Life Skincare Collection. I bagged this beauty in the January sales and I am OBSESSED. It contains two full sized products; the Revitalising Facial Oil 30ml, and the Intensely Revitalising Cream 50ml. These two products are insane. They give the skin a really natural, healthy looking glow, helps to soften and smooth the skin and leaves it feeling incredibly healthy and nourished! I was slightly apprehensive, as I thought it may just contribute to my oiliness and shine, but it really doesn’t and has helped my skin massively! I would most definitely recommend and I can not wait to try out more from the Oils of Life range.

That is all for my Skincare Haul and First Impressions! I hope you enjoyed this post, and it feels SO good to be back blogging! Next on the blog will be something I don’t talk that much about… Haircare!

July Favourites!

IMG_2861

Hello my lovelies! I am going to be talking you through all of the products I have been loving throughout the month of July. A lot of this month’s favourites consists of skincare as my skin does have a tendency to dry up during the warmer months. I find that regular, gentle exfoliation and a lot of moisturising makes a huge difference to the way your skin looks and feels.

So, the first thing that I have been obsessed with is Simple’s Micellar Water. I tried the Garnier Micellar Water when it first came out, but it completely broke me out and since then, I have been completely put off trying other versions. I saw that this one was on offer in Superdrug so I thought I’d give it a go, and I absolutely LOVE it – I have already used my first bottle so I went out and bought the huuuuge one! This does remove all of my makeup, including eyeliner and mascara really well, but I prefer to use this as my second cleanse or in the morning before I do my makeup as I find it really refreshing.

IMG_2882

Another Simple product I have been really enjoying, is their Moisturiser with SPF 15. It’s hard to find a really good, affordable, drugstore moisturiser with SPF and this is something that I really rely on throughout the Summer. If you are wearing makeup, you don’t really want to be putting sun cream on over the top of your makeup so it is really important that you use a moisturiser or foundation with SPF in it.

IMG_2878

L’Oreal have recently released a range of Pure Clay Face Masks. There are three different masks in this range; Detox, Glow and Purity. I went into Boots and they had little test cards to help you test your t-zone, cheeks and chin to determine whether they were dehydrated, combination or normal and based on my results, I picked up the Detox and Glow masks. The Detox mask is a charcoal based face mask that helps to draw out impurities and works deep into pores. The Glow mask contains finely milled apricot seeds which gently exfoliates your skin, removing any dead skin cells and giving your skin a healthy looking glow. The Detox mask, is a really good, cheaper alternative to the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. I love both of these products and they are great value for money!

IMG_2874

Rimmel is the one drugstore brand that I cannot fault in terms of foundations. The one I have been reaching for the most recently is the Lasting Finish 25hr Wear Foundation. This foundation gives a flawless, full coverage finish without feeling too heavy on your skin. This also has an SPF of 20 which again, is really important during Summer and is something that a lot of affordable foundations are missing.

IMG_2885

An eyeliner that I have recently rediscovered is the L’Oreal Superliner Ultra Precision. This is a liquid eyeliner with a thin, spongey applicator tip. This is super pigmented, dries really quickly and lasts such a long time! The applicator tip makes is so easy to do thick, or thin lines and is perfect for flicks as it is really flexible.

IMG_2909.jpg

Two makeup brushes that I have been really enjoying using this month are the Real Techniques Stippling Brush and the Real Techniques Setting Brush. The stippling brush is perfect for applying and buffing in foundation, leaving a flawless looking finish. The setting brush is the best thing I have ever used to apply and blend in concealer – it leaves no brush marks and leaves skin looking incredible!

IMG_2872

MAC are my favourite brand when it comes to lipsticks and when Velvet Teddy was first released, I wore it ALL THE TIME. Then I kind of forgot about it, and the other week as I was going through my makeup storage, I found that it had nearly ran out, so I finished what was left of it and I completely fell in love with it all over again, so I ordered a new one. This is the perfect nude lipstick, and is perfect for that no-makeup, makeup look and is a great shade for all year round.

IMG_2896IMG_2900

For eyebrows, I have been obsessed with the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Gel. The reason I love this so much is because it is so much more pigmented than a lot of other brow gels I have tried, so it really does make a difference. The formula isn’t too thick or clumpy and the brush isn’t too big – love it.

IMG_2907.jpg

A slightly different favourite this month, is a toothpaste. This is the Oral B 3D White Luxe Perfection toothpaste. This product really does help whiten teeth and helps get rid of any stains or yellowing. Since using this toothpaste, I have had several people tell me how white my teeth look and have asked if I use any teeth-whitening kits, when all I use is this toothpaste. I noticed the difference myself after only using it a handful of times, I cannot rave about this one enough!

IMG_2891.jpg

My final favourite is a pair of shoes. I’m not that into shoes, but when I find a pair I like, I end up getting them in every colour that they do. So, my current shoe obsession is with this pair of Vans. I have had the white version of these for a couple of months now and I wear them all of the time, so I thought it was only right to treat myself to the black pair too. I don’t wear sandals, flip-flops or anything else like that, so for me, these are the perfect summer shoes, although I will probably wear them all year round. They go with everything, they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and you don’t need to break them in – what more could you want?

IMG_2914 (1).jpg

Summer Beauty Haul

IMG_2501

So over the past couple of days, I have either ordered online, or picked up quite a few bits from Boots and Superdrug, so I thought it was only right to do a little haul. Actually, I bought more than I realised so I will be doing two separate hauls; a beauty haul and a skincare haul.

Starting with all things make-up and beauty…

I went slightly OTT in Superdrug as they had a 3 for 2 offer across all cosmetics – well, it’d be rude not to, eh?

I am obsessed with matte liquid lipsticks and when I saw that Tanya Burr had released some, I had to try them out. The shade I picked up was Martha Moo, and this is the perfect nude shade with pink, mauvey undertones. It looks quite bright when you first apply it but darkens slightly as it dries. It doesn’t dry out my lips, or have that sticky consistency that others do, it is really comfortable to wear. The packaging of this product, and the rest of Tanya Burr Cosmetics, is absolutely gorgeous. They feel very luxurious considering the prices of the products and the products are of such high quality. I cannot wait for my local store to stock more of these products so I can try more out, I am particularly excited for the new eye shadow palettes!

IMG_2514

Something that I have been desperate to try for ages, but has always been out of stock in my local store, is the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer in the shade 01. I am yet to find a concealer that beats the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, so I am excited to try this one out and see how the two compare!

IMG_2519

Not that I needed any new mascaras, but I picked up two new releases. The first one is by Maybelline and this is the Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara. I could not get on with the original Lash Sensational at all, as much as I tried and tried, it just wasn’t for me, however, I thought I’d give this one a try. The brush on this is very different to the original Lash Sensational and Maybelline describes it as an “extraordinary patented fanning brush”. I have used this a couple of times and so far, so good! It grabs every lash and really does give that “multiplying effect” that it promises to give.

IMG_2516IMG_2537

The other mascara I bought is another new release, but by L’Oreal and this is the Miss Hippie Mega Volume Mascara. This mascara has a bristle brush as opposed to a plastic brush, and really lengthens and volumises lashes, giving them a feathery, fluttery finish. I have only used this a handful of times but I am loving this so far and can’t wait to use it some more.

IMG_2511IMG_2535

Another new release by Rimmel is the Brow This Way range. I picked up the Highlighting Pencil and the Brow Styling Gel. I am a big fan of brow gels, I think they really help improve the appearance of brows, making them look sharper and more defined so I can’t wait to try this out – I got the shade Dark Brown. I have been searching high and low for a drugstore brow highlighting pencil so I was super excited when I saw that Rimmel had released one. I tend to use a regular highlighter as a brow bone highlight, so I am really looking forward to trying this out.

IMG_2524

Another new product from Rimmel is the 24hr Wear Colour Precise Eyeliner. The L’Oreal Superliner is my all time favourite eyeliner; however, I am always on the look-out for something even better. The shape of this eyeliner looks like it will be ideal for creating the perfect winged liner.

IMG_2528

From Barry M, I picked up a lip liner in the shade 17 which is a nude shade with brown undertones. It lasts really well and looks lovely paired with MAC’s Whirl or Velvet Teddy. I am super impressed and will definitely be picking up some more shades! I also picked up two nail varnishes from Barry M. I got the shade Dark Side of the ‘Shroom from the Sunset Daylight Curing range and Copper Mine from the new Molten Metal range. Barry M are my favourite brand for nail varnishes, the quality of them are amazing and they last such a long time.

IMG_2533IMG_2522

From Revlon, I picked up the ColorStay Foundation in the shade Buff. I have never tried this foundation before and have heard such great things about it, and seeing as I am on the hunt for a new drugstore foundation, I thought I’d give it a try. I got this in the satin finish for normal/dry skin as I much prefer a dewy, glowy look as opposed to a matte finish, especially for this time of year.

IMG_2510

The final thing, I ordered from Beauty Bay and is definitely more of a high-end purchase than high-street. This is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance eye shadow palette. I cannot get over how stunning this palette is! The packaging is really luxurious; a mauvey-pink colour and is also suede. Each and every shade is absolutely beautiful and I am SO excited to experiment with this palette! I will be doing a detailed review on this palette once I have tried and tested it out properly!

IMG_2503IMG_2506

That is everything make-up wise, that I bought recently! I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know your thoughts on any of these products or if you can recommend anything else you think I might like!

April Favourites!

I’m sure these months are going by quicker and quicker, it only feels like yesterday since I posted my March Favourites!

IMG_1134

The first thing that I have been well and truly obsessed with is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light. Okay, I 100% understand the hype with this product. It took me a while to buy this product as I didn’t think it would live up to my expectations, but it is absolutely amazing! It controls oil and shine yet gives your skin the most gorgeous, radiant glow! It does look rather glittery and shimmery in the pan, but it doesn’t appear at all glittery or shimmery when it is applied. It really does make your skin look luminous and it has most definitely found its way into my everyday makeup bag. I am now deciding which one I am going to buy next…

IMG_1137

Something else that is very much-loved in the beauty-sphere is the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder. Again, I am rather late to join the ‘hype’ of this product, but I am so glad that I eventually caved in and bought it. I bought this in the shade Medium and this is the perfect contour shade for me. It has grey-undertones as opposed to more bronzed and orange tones, meaning it is great for creating that desired shadow effect. Yes, it is slightly pricey but it is most definitely worth it! This makes contouring super quick and easy without having to take ages blending in cream products. The only thing I will say, is if you are going to buy this product then do not put too much product on your brush and use a very light hand otherwise it will make you look patchy and muddy. This contour powder is going to last me such a long time and I will, without a doubt be repurchasing when I eventually hit pan on this.

IMG_1140.jpg

A more affordable product that I have been loving is the L’Oreal False Lash Superstar Red Carpet Mascara. I absolutely love that it is double-ended with a primer and a mascara. I have never really gotten on with any other mascara primer before this one, but this really helps lengthen lashes before applying the mascara, it lasts all day and does everything that a mascara should.

IMG_1146IMG_1149

The next thing that I have been loving is the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Concealer in the shade light. I have never really taken much notice of the Maybelline face products, I tend to just use their mascaras, brow products and eye shadows. However, I have really, really been enjoying using this concealer. It has great coverage and doesn’t appear thick or cakey, it is super easy to blend and lasts all day! I put some of the product on the back of my hand before applying it to my face and pat it in using my fingers or a damp beauty blender.

IMG_1151.jpg

I have recently discovered two new lipsticks. The first is part of the Rimmel Kate Moss Nude Lipstick collection in the shade 43. I have so many nude lipsticks already but I just couldn’t resist. This is a satin-finish product and is really hydrating and nourishing and is slightly different to the other nude lipsticks that I own as this has more of a mauve undertone to it as opposed to pink or brown. The Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks are probably my favourite high-street brand for lipsticks so I would definitely recommend checking them out!

IMG_1152.jpg

The next lipstick is by Maybelline. I have been on the hunt for a red lipstick with orange undertones for so long and I have finally found the perfect one. This is the perfect shade for Summer and the warmer months and isn’t as much of a statement as a bold red lip, like Ruby Woo or Russian Red by Mac. This is in the shade ‘955 Craving Coral’. It is a matte finish and I was slightly concerned about the staying power and whether or not it would dry out my lips but it lasts such a long time and is not at all drying! I will most definitely be checking out more of the shades in this range!

IMG_1154.jpg

My final product is a brush. Everybody knows how much I love the Zoeva makeup brushes and I have fallen head over heels in love with the 109 Luxe Faint Paint brush. This is amazing for contouring and fits the pan of my Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder perfectly. It makes contouring super easy and I would not be without this brush! Plus, it’s rose gold…

IMG_1158.jpg

That is all for this month’s favourites! Sorry it’s a bit late but I have had SO much work to do for uni but I have finished now until September so I promise I will be posting every week as usual! I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know what you’ve been loving! Don’t forget to follow!

February Favourites

As February is a shorter month, my favourites are going to be short and sweet!

IMG_0023

I have recently rediscovered an old favourite of mine, the L’Oreal Glam Bronze bronzer in the shade 00. This was one of the first bronzers I used and it never disappoints! I seem to have forgotten about this bronzer ever since I started using Hoola by Benefit. This bronzer is such a lovely shade and gives the perfect, natural glow. I also love that this bronzer is matte, making it a lot more subtle and natural in comparison to other bronzers and it doesn’t leave the skin looking muddy! This is definitely an oldie, but a goodie.

IMG_0037

The Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser is my next favourite. I received a Liz Earle gift set for Christmas and immediately fell in love! I have used up the samples and repurchased the full sized products. My favourite has to be the moisturiser; it is so rich and creamy and really hydrates my skin. This has become an absolute must for my skincare!

IMG_0033 (1)

A primer that I have been loving is the Flawless Brightening Primer by Barry M. Barry M is usually a brand that I associate with nail polish and have never really looked at their other products. But, I am so impressed with this primer! It really does brighten up my complexion and doesn’t leave my skin feeling too oily or greasy and keeps my makeup in place all day!

IMG_0030

I have also been loving the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer in the shade Light. This is a concealer but also works well as a highlighter. I think this is really similar to the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat, but with a bit more coverage. This is perfect for covering up dark circles and brightening up my eyes!

IMG_0034

This month, I have fallen completely in love with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I never used to be a fan of makeup sponges or beauty blenders for applying foundation as I preferred to really work and buff the foundation into my skin, but I have been really enjoying using this. It is better for more of a light coverage finish and leaves the skin looking so smooth and flawless. It is also incredible for blending in concealer too! This has definitely become a staple for my makeup routine.

IMG_0027

My final favourite is the new shampoo and conditioner from the Tresemmé Beauty-Full Volume range. I must admit, I was a bit reluctant in using these because you condition before you shampoo, BUT… it is amazing and it really does make a difference. My hair is so much bouncier and shinier and I am obsessed with it!
