Where Have I Been?

Happy Monday!

I have done this kind of post before but I keep talking myself out of trying to blog again – it just feels like so long since I was last in the blogging space and to be honest, I feel SO out of the loop.

I write for a living which is all I have ever wanted to do, and I kept telling myself that after spending all day writing, I’m not going to want to spend my evenings and weekends doing the same.

But, I miss writing as me, taking photographs and having fun with my blog.

So, for today’s post, I thought I would do a little catch up, tell you what I have been up to so far this year and what the rest of the year looks like for me and my blog.

In January, me and Jake went to New York and we had the best time. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since we got back and we are most definitely planning on visiting again – maybe even next year. I have some incredible photos from our trip and we did some amazing things, but some of our favourite days were spent doing things that were much less touristy, so I might put it all together and create a NYC travel guide – where to eat, where to shop, what we should/shouldn’t have done, etc. I have quite bad travel anxiety too, so this is something else I would love to discuss.

IMG_1212

I started a new job. I am now a Digital Copywriter and I am loving it – to write for a living is all I have ever wanted to do, so I couldn’t be happier right now.

Jake is in his final year of uni, so we are in the process of saving for a house – and I am most definitely a spender so trying to save money is something I am struggling with! I might also create a blog post about this – how we are saving for a deposit, mortgages, budgeting, and what we are cutting down on to try and save as much as possible by this time next year (hopefully).

IMG_1499

In July, we went on holiday. There were 16 of us in total – Jake, my Dad, step-mum, four of my sisters, three cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, the lot – and we had an absolute blast. We went to Costa Adeje in Tenerife for two weeks and it was a much needed break that we all needed. It was the perfect combination of relaxation and exploring – we went on the most insane boat trip, saw Whales and Dolphins, had the best day at Siam Park and myself and Jake spent a day exploring Mount Teide and spent the evening stargazing – which is a whole other post in itself, but if you’re ever in Tenerife, I would highly recommended doing it! I might even do a ‘things to do in Costa Adeje’ style post, as there is so much to see and do!

IMG_0476

Now, I am getting ready for the best time of the year – Autumn and Winter. I have put my summer clothes into storage and the chunky knits, turtle necks and boots are out in full force. I have really gotten into fashion a lot more lately and although I love shopping and buying new pieces, I am more conscious about the effects of fast fashion and I am trying to buy things that are much more versatile, that I can mix up and that I can wear again and again. Is a capsule wardrobe style post something you’d be interested in seeing on my blog?

IMG_1496

Oh, and I joined a gym – something I never thought would happen. I suffer quite badly with Arthritis and Fibromyalgia, so I have found it difficult to find a form of exercise that doesn’t feel like it’s doing more harm than good. But, through a complete change in diet and incorporating gentle exercise into my life, I have lost over a stone and dropped two dress sizes in a little over six months! I don’t know many people my age with the same illnesses, so this is a topic I’d love to speak more about and make people realise that you can still do everything you want to – exercise, eat well, socialise, have a full-time job, etc – you will be knackered, but you can do it!

That’s all for now, but let me know what kind of content you’d like to see on the blog!

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette – Review and Swatches!

I’m sure by now you all know what this palette looks like, and most of you probably already own it but I couldn’t not dedicate a whole post to one of the most talked about palettes of the year.

This palette had been so hyped up (with good reason), and I’m not normally one to jump on the band wagon straight away, especially with eyeshadow palettes because I already own so many that I really have to justify needing wanting a new palette to add to my ever-growing collection.

I fell in love with the shades in this palette instantly, they are completely me and it was kinda inevitable that sooner or later I was gonna give in and buy it. I don’t actually have a palette like this, I have a few similar shades but most of them are unique to the rest of my collection. I’m also in love with the packaging! I know a few people have said it looks quite tacky but I LOVE it! It’s so retro and is something so different to the rest of the Naked palettes!

UD Packaging2

Although the palette was released as a Summer launch, I couldn’t help but feel slightly Autumnal when looking at it! The shades are great for all year round, but to me, warm tones and deep reds, coppers and burgundy just screams Autumn and Winter! I got this palette about 6 weeks ago and have used it everyday, and I just know that this palette will carry me through to the New Year too! I can’t wait to pair it with a deep red or burgundy lip, and create some gorgeous makeup looks for the Christmas season.

So, onto the what I think of the actual product…

The Urban Decay Naked palettes were some of the first I ever owned, and are kinda what made me fall in love with makeup in the first place, so I will always have a bit of a soft spot for them. However, since then the world of makeup has completely grown and expanded that products and brands have improved and things have naturally just gotten better, that I just tend to reach for other palettes over the first few Naked palettes. I still like them, but there are just better quality products out there, and they did tend to have a dudd shade or two.. BUT, this one has completely changed the game. All of the shades are creamy and buttery and blend like an absolute dream. The matte shades aren’t chalky or lack pigmentation, and there isn’t too much fall out from the shimmer shades. I can’t fault them at all in terms of formulation and pigmentation, and even though the palette is completely warm-toned, there are a good variety of shades, and a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades, too.

  • Chaser
  • Sauced
  • Low Blow
  • Lumbre
  • He Devil
  • Dirty Talk
  • Scorched

  • Ember

The only negative thing I have to say about this product, is that I think it is lacking a pale gold shimmer shade, to use as an inner corner/brow-bone highlight and to break up the darker shades a bit. BUT, other than that, I cannot fault this palette at all and I can see me getting alooooot of use out of it!

I love this palette, and would most definitely recommend it!

If any of you guys have this palette, let me know your thoughts on it too!

Zoella Lifestyle!

I’m a huge fan of the first Zoella Lifestyle range, so when I heard Zoe was releasing another, and permanent lifestyle range I was super excited. Many of the items from the first range came in so handy during my second year at uni, as well as making fab props for the background of blog photos. So, I knew I was bound to pick up a few of the bits from the new range.

As soon as they got released, I instantly fell in love with the colour scheme of everything! Grey, pink, white and gold is what I am allllll about at the minute. PLUS, it is the exact same colour scheme as my bedroom (which you can have a look around, here). I noticed that Superdrug had a 3 for 2 offer on the range, so I thought I’d order the bits I wanted because I knew they’d sell out crazy fast.

So, for this post I thought I would share with you the bits and pieces I got.

The first thing, is something I knew I would buy and that is the stationary book. I used the one from the first range so much during uni, to make notes, reminders, to-do lists, the lot. So, I was without a doubt going to buy this. It has little sticky notes,  so you can flag important pages in books, or diaries, a little notes section, and one for lists. The other side, has weekly goals, and has sections for morning and evening making it super easy to keep track of busy schedules. This one is soooo pretty and aesthetically pleasing, and the fact that it goes perfectly with my bedroom means it look will amazing on my dressing table. If any of you are like me, and are terrible of keeping track of deadlines, appointments, or lose all of your important notes and to-do lists, then get this.. GAME CHANGER.

The next thing I picked up was the pack of two jotters. These, I thought would be useful for when I go back to university in September and I can use a different one for different modules. These have such a cute design and are the perfect size!

zoella lifestyle jotters.jpg

I also picked up the Wonderful, journal. This a gorgeous, white and baby pink faux leather notebook. This is such good quality, and I think this will be ideal for planning blog posts, and I’ll probably use this for larger to-do lists as well, like planning for my holiday, or my Christmas shopping. I can’t wait to start using this.

zoella lifestyle wonderful bool

Along with the journal, I picked up the pack of five, Write on Point pencils. I got the pencils from the previous collection, as they were a gorgeous colour, they sat in a pot looking lovely in my bedroom and have featured in the background of many blog photos. So, inevitably, I was going to buy these. Even more so because they are stunning different shades of pink, and this time they have a rubber on the end. Each pencil has a little saying written on it which I think is adorable.

zoella lifestyle pencils

The next thing I picked up was the Catching Trinkets, trinket dish. How gorgeous is this?! I have been looking for something to put on top of one of my bedside tables to fill an empty space for such a long time and this is the thing to fill it. Again, this will probably end up in the background of my blog photos as well, but I always end up with my rings, bracelets and watches scattered everywhere in my bedroom so it’ll be nice to finally have somewhere to keep everything altogether. LOVE this.

zoella lifestyle trinket dish

The final thing I got was of course, one of the storage pots. I have the two from the previous range, which currently hold my makeup brushes, but I just could not resist this one. The baby pink with grey polka dots was just screaming my name. This could also house my makeup brushes as I seem to have an ever-growing collection of them, or I will actually use it as a plant pot as I think that is probably the one thing my room is missing.

zoella lifestyle pot

That is everything I picked up from the new Zoella Lifestyle range. I think the cushions are next on my ‘to-buy’ list, they are super cute!

Anyway, I hope you liked this post! Let me know if you’ve got anything from the new range, or if there’s anything you have your eye on!

Palmer’s Skincare – Review!

Hey everyone!

So, today I thought I would have a chat about some of the Palmer’s skincare products I have been trying out lately.

palmers feat

I saw a couple of other bloggers mention a couple of these products, and I am always on the hunt for new skincare products, especially when it’s drugstore, so I thought it would be only right to give them a go. I picked up the Day Cream, Night Cream, Facial Oil and the Natural Bronze Body Lotion.

I absolutely HATE fake tan. I can’t do it, it’s messy, it wears off so easily and I think it can look a bit too fake at times. SO, I tend to reach for tinted body lotions, or gradual tans instead. I have tried many gradual tan’s and have loved all of the ones I have tried (Dove, Garnier, you name it). However, there is just something that I love a little bit more about the Palmer’s Natural Bronze Body Lotion. It is so much more moisturising and hydrating, and it smells incredible. It looks a lot more natural, makes your skin look super fresh and glowy and you can build it up as much as you need. It is super easy to apply, goes on evenly and doesn’t leave any streaks or dry patches on elbows or knees. This is an absolute essential for Summer!

natural bronze

The Day Cream is just as fab. I find it really hard to find an affordable moisturiser that is really hydrating and nourishing, particularly with SPF, which this one also has. It has the famous Palmer’s scent, which I love and it leaves my skin feeling soooo soft all day. It has quite a thick consistency, but isn’t at all heavy on the skin and absorbs super quickly. This also creates a great base for makeup. If you’re looking for an affordable moisturiser, I would definitely recommend giving this one a go!

day cream

The Palmer’s Facial Oil has made itself a firm favourite in my skincare routine. Do you know how hard it is to find a facial oil that contains retinol that doesn’t cost a crazy amount of money? Almost impossible. This has helped my skin so much. I put it on every night as part of my evening skincare routine and it has helped with pigmentation, helped reduce any marks that blemish’s have left, and I wake up and my skin is super smooth and glowing. Not only does it include Retinol, but a whole load of other oils and vitamins that are beneficial to the skin. For the price of this product, you should most definitely try it out!

The Moisture Rich Night Cream for Overnight Renewal is also incredible. This also contains Retinol and a shed load of other oils and vitamins that do nothing but good things to your skin. The formulation of this product is really thick and is a super rich and intensive moisturiser – perfect to apply as the final step in my evening skincare routine and just before bed. My skin is still super soft when I wake up, and it definitely lives up to it’s claims of ‘overnight renewal’.

night cream

I have loved using these products so much, they are such good quality and super affordable. I can’t wait to try out so much more from their range, as it works so well with my skin!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have tried any of these products, or anything else from the Palmer’s skincare range!

Space NK Haul & First Impressions!

feat pic spacenk haul.jpg

As most of you know, Jake and I went to Brighton for a couple of days last month to celebrate our five year anniversary.

So, while we were there, it was only right that I went to Space NK. I actually went in twice, once on the first day, and again on the second day to buy the things I was too indecisive to buy the day before. I bought a bit more than I was intending to, but I am super happy with all of my purchases.

So, the first thing I picked up is something I have wanted to try for ages now, but nowhere near me stocks it and I didn’t want to just risk it and guess my shade. This is the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. Everybody has been raving about it, so I couldn’t wait to finally get my hands on it and try it out. There was a Makeup Artist from Laura Mercier in store this day, and I’m sure his name was Hugo and he was super nice! He matched me up to the right shade, told me the best ways to apply this and how to make it last the longest. Is there anything better than good customer service? Anyway, on to the actual product.. this creates the perfect base, especially for the warmer months, plus it has SPF 20! It evens out my skin, giving a lightweight, glowy base which is something I am really into at the moment. I’m not really enjoying using foundation on my skin, so I have been reaching for BB creams, and tinted moisturisers instead and it just seems to be working much better with my skin. So far, I am loving this tinted moisturiser. I find it applies best when I use my fingers, finishing off with a slightly damp beauty blender.

The next thing is the OUAI Wave Spray. I mentioned this in a recent post about how I achieve messy, beachy waves, here. I wanted to pick up one of the full-sized bottles, but they didn’t sell it, so I picked up the travel-size instead. I have heard such good things about this brand, and I can see why! This product has really helped with the way I style my hair and makes such a difference! I spray it through the mid-lengths and ends of my hair after I have curled it, and it gives it the most gorgeous wavy texture, without leaving it feeling sticky, or crunchy like some others do. And, it smells INCREDIBLE. There a few other things I have my eye on from OUAI, like the Dry Shampoo Foam, Hair Oil and the Texturising Hairspray, so I will definitely pick these up when I can!

ouai wave spray.jpg

The next few things I went back the next day to pick up because there was so much I wanted to try out but knew I had to be a little bit sensible with my spending! Kiehl’s is a brand I have always wanted to try out, but there aren’t any stores near me that sell it, and I’m one of those people that wants to try out a bit on the back of their hand before they buy it. I picked up the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, the Ultra Facial Cream and the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I won’t ramble on too much about these products, because I’m gonna do a proper review on them in a separate blog post. But just know they’re fab, made huge differences to my skin and I LOVE them all!

kiehls3.jpg

I already know that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is going to be a firm staple in my evening skincare routine. It has the most gorgeous Lavender scent to it, making it perfect to apply before bed. It isn’t greasy, and I wake up with the most luminous, glowing skin.

kiehls mrc

I had conjunctivitis not too long ago, and since then my eyes have been extremely dry and my makeup just hasn’t sat the same under and around my eyes since. That was until I tried the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado – GAME CHANGER.

kiehls avocado

The Ultra Facial Cream is the perfect moisturiser to use in the mornings as it keeps my skin so incredibly soft and hydrated all day long, and is the perfect base for primer and makeup. These products have now made me want to try soooo much more from this brand, particularly the Midnight Recovery Cleansing Oil, Daily Reviving Concentrate and the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque.

kiehls ultra facial cream

I hope you enjoyed that little haul. Let me know if you have tried any of these products, and what you think of them, also if you have any other recommendations for me?

A Weekend at Hoar Cross Hall!

This blog post is slightly overdue, but we had that much of a good time that I couldn’t just not post about.

So, not that long ago, myself and 7 other lovely ladies headed over to Hoar Cross Hall for a hen weekend. We stayed over on the Friday night, and came back Saturday evening. Our package included a three-course evening meal on the Friday, breakfast, and we had an upgrade to Champagne Afternoon Tea on the Saturday.

When we arrived on the Saturday, at about 2pm, we got ourselves checked in and shown to our rooms. We had a look around and were super impressed with the rooms and the bathrooms were filled with miniature Elemis products, which were gorgeous to use! All of our rooms were relatively close to one another, which was really handy.

We then decided to get our bikinis on and head down to the spa for a bit. We went for a swim, made use of the saunas and steam-rooms and had a bit of a natter in the Jacuzzi.

Because it was such a beautiful day, we then went out to the back gardens of the building and had a couple of cocktails. It was too nice to be sat indoors, so we sat outside, sipping cocktails, admiring the gorgeous view of the gardens.

sunbeds hchgardenss hch

Our evening meal was booked for 7:30pm, so at about 6pm, we headed back up to the rooms to get showered and ready for dinner. The food was absolutely beautiful, and the service was great! I had paté on toasted ciabatta with a red onion chutney for starters, steak and chips with salad and garlic bread for mains, and cheese and biscuits for dessert (excuse the iPhone quality on these images, I left my camera in the room!). After dinner, we had a couple of drinks and went back up to our rooms where we gave the bride-to-be the gifts and surprises we had got for her.

Breakfast was just as good the following morning. It was a help yourself kinda thing, with the most amazing cooked breakfast, and alllll of the beautiful pastries.

After breakfast, we headed straight to the spa, where we made use of all the facilities. It was SO nice to just completely chill, wind-down and relax. We made our way to the product shop, which was filled with allllll of the Clarins and Elemis products you could ever want! I of course, didn’t go away empty handed and bought quite a few things, as did a few of the other girls. The member of staff in the shop, Claire, was super helpful, recommended specific products to us, matched us up to the products we were interested in, and really looked after us! She made sure we had everything we wanted and needed and was so lovely.

blossomsoutside huhhch gardens

At 2pm, we had our Champagne Afternoon Tea. We were supposed to eat this in the Library of the building, however because the weather was too good, we very cheekily asked if we could enjoy it outside instead (which we did!). The bartender at Sally Bee’s (the upstairs café), Sam, was absolutely incredible at looking after us and making that we had everything we needed. He invented us our own cocktails if we didn’t like what was on the list, he was so, so friendly and this really made such a difference to our day! Sam only had a few weeks left at Hoar Cross Hall at this point, but he was such an amazing member of staff and the way he treated each guest was just fantastic! The afternoon tea itself was to die for. There was a variety of different foods; sandwiches, wraps, cake, scones.. you name it. I think I speak for most of the girls when I say this was one of the highlights of the weekend as we had such a lovely time sat outside, eating, drinking and being treated incredibly well by the members of staff!

afternoontea hchafternoon tea hchcheers hch

We all had the best weekend here at Hoar Cross Hall, and the staff here definitely contributed to how memorable this weekend was. Myself and several of the others visited here not too long ago, which I did a post on here, so we were so excited to be coming back for a second time and I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last either! We all came home feeling relaxed and refreshed, which is exactly how you’re supposed to feel after a spa weekend! I’ve been to a couple of different spas, and spa breaks and so far, this is by far the best. I’ve raved about this place and recommended it to multiple people, which have then visited here themselves and have had the best time.

I have a few more visits to here lined up throughout the year, so, Hoar Cross Hall, I’ll see you again soon!

A trip to Brighton, and 5 year anniversary!

Last week, myself and my boyfriend, Jake went to Brighton for a couple of days for our 5th anniversary. FIVE YEARS. That is crayyyy. It has absolutely flown by but I have had the best five years with Jake and wouldn’t change a thing. *Soppiness over with.. moving on*.

Photo Booth.jpg

I’m not quite sure what made us want to go to Brighton. We didn’t really fancy going to London, or a big city like that, because we’ve already done that, so we wanted somewhere a bit more chill and a bit more relaxed. We’d heard so many good things about Brighton, and I’m not sure why, but it’s somewhere I have always wanted to visit, so we just kinda decided on that. We stayed for two nights, and three days.

london station

The train journey was about three and a half hours long, with a change and a tube journey in London – which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and it went so quick. We arrived in Brighton at around 2pm, and checked into our hotel. We stayed in the Drakes Hotel, which was stunning! The staff were so lovely and super helpful in giving us recommendations and ordering us taxi’s when we needed, etc. When we were shown to our room, there was a card on the bed wishing myself and Jake a happy anniversary. HOW CUTE. This was such a lovely touch and extremely thoughtful of the staff. The room was insane. It was small, but had everything you needed, including a free-standing bath tub over-looking the beach, a robe and slippers along with The White Company toiletries – lush.

drakes beddrakes bed deskdrakes sinkdrakes bath deskdrakes cardrobe slippers

We put our bags in the room, freshened up and headed for the beach. Our hotel was so close to the beach, you literally crossed the road, and there it was. We walked along the beach, and grabbed a burger and some chips from the burger bar on the beach. It was so nice to walk across a pebbled beach for a change, too! We then made our way to the lanes – which again was so close to us, it was about a five-minute walk. Also, the weather was incredible – it was so warm and sunny!

beach

As soon as we got into the lanes, we spotted Boho Gelato, and we couldn’t not get an ice cream. I’m not joking when I say this was the best ice cream I’ve ever had – it was incredible! Although there were SO many flavours to choose from, I played it safe and went for mint. We had a wander around the lanes and the shops and took a slow walk back to our hotel to get ready for dinner.

bohooooicecreamsicecreamice cream 2

Everywhere was SO busy and we hadn’t booked a seat beforehand, so we ended up in Bella Italia. I know – wild. Jake and I, (more so Jake) are fussy eaters so we don’t really tend to venture out in terms of food. But, I was more than happy with Bruschetta and Spag Bol and Jake with his Pizza and Fries. I also had a few cheeky cocktails which were super tasty! We had another walk around the lanes, and worked out where we wanted to go for breakfast the next day, and headed back to the hotel.

cocktails

The next day, we got ready and headed straight to The Breakfast Club in the lanes for breakfast. Again, we’d heard so many good things about this place so we just had to try it out! I had scrambled eggs on toast, and Jake had poached eggs. The portion sizes were absolutely huge, I only just managed to eat half!

orange juicebreakfast club

We decided that we wanted to do a bit of shopping, so Jake spent most of the time in the VANS and DC stores. I picked up a few bits from Space NK, but I’m going to save what I bought for another post. We headed back towards the beach and went to the Pier. We grabbed a hotdog and some chips and had a walk down, and then it started to rain like crazy!

brighton pierbeach pier

We ran to the inside parts of the pier to keep dry, and soon realised it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon, so decided to walk back to the hotel. And, I don’t know why but when I looked down and saw the sea beneath us, I completely freaked out and literally ran off the pier! When I got off the Pier, I could just see Jake crying with laughter at the other end! When we got back to hotel, I began to feel quite ill. For those of you that don’t know, I suffer quite badly with Arthritis, so I was beginning to really ache and I think all the travelling and walking we had done was beginning to take its toll. So, we decided to take a couple of hours to just chill in the room, and I had the most amazing bubble bath which over-looked the beach and the sea – amazing.

bath

We went for a walk around, and looked for places to go for dinner that night, but I still wasn’t feeling great at all, and we realised that we could actually order from Deliveroo to the hotel! How cool is that?! So, we decided to do that instead which was so lovely to just relax in our comfies, watch TV and spend time together.

The next day, our train home wasn’t until 2pm so we had quite a bit of time to kill so we went for breakfast in the lanes and headed to Churchill Square Shopping Centre to do a bit of last minute shopping.

denim dressdenim dress steps

We bought a few bits and I bumped into Poppy Deyes which was so cool! She was so lovely and very kindly stopped for a quick chat and a photo! I also took another quick trip into Space NK to buy a few Kiehl’s products I’d had my eye on for ages. I won’t say what I got because I will be doing a separate post for that! Whilst in Space NK, I saw Anna Gardner (The Anna Edit), which was amazing! She was so nice, and stopped to talk about my purchases, and had a few photos with me! It was so amazing to meet two people that influence my blog so much and that I aspire and look up to!

me anna 2me poppy

The train home wasn’t as easy going as the train there, as there were no seats so we had to stand and it was so busy that nobody could even move! But, we had the most amazing time in Brighton and it was such a lovely way to celebrate our five-year anniversary. We are already thinking about planning our next trip here!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Don’t forget to like and follow my blog! Follow my Twitter and Instagram to see even more photos from our trip!
