My Skincare Favourites

Well, it’s been a while since I did an updated skincare routine – there are some oldies but goodies and there are a few new things I am testing out.

I love trying out new products but my skin knows exactly what it wants, so whenever I do try to change things up a little, it can take a while for my skin to get used to it.

There are some brands that I know my skin loves and will always love; Kiehl’s, Clinique, Liz Earle, Pixi Beauty and The Body Shop, to name a few.

There are a few cleansers I am enjoying using at the minute. In the morning, I use Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser – it’s a really gentle cleanser and is perfect for a morning cleanse or even a second cleanse. I am also using the Caroline Hirons X Pixi Beauty Double Cleanse which is an absolute dream to use, as well as The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil. I picked up the Glossy Box X Sunday Riley beauty box, and I have been loving the Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm. It leaves your skin feeling super clean and it completely melts away all traces of makeup.

cleansers

For toners, I am pretty faithful to what I know and love. The Pixi Glow Tonic is a firm favourite and is something I have repurchased for many years and will continue to do so – my skin is oh-so-thankful for this product. It is the most amazing, gentle exfoliant and has been a complete game-changer for me. If my skin is being particularly sensitive, then the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic is perfect. TIP: decant this into a spray bottle and you will have the most refreshing facial spritz!

toners

There are only two products that I will let near my eyes – the Clinique All About Eyes and the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. Both of these are super hydrating and extremely gentle. I use the Clinique in the morning, and Kiehl’s at night.

Serums and Oils. This is the part of my skincare routine that I have been experimenting with. I find that my skin lacks radiance and is very dehydrated. I also have quite a lot of redness, so trying to find something that will target all of my problem areas is rather difficult.

I am currently testing out The Body Shop Vitamin E Serum-In-Oil and so far, I am really enjoying it. It’s really hydrating and not greasy at all, and I wake up in the morning with my skin looking much more radiant and refreshed.

An oldie but a goodie, that I always seem to go back to is the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. This product always seems to find its way back into my skincare rotation and it makes my skin feel a-maz-ing.

Another oil that I have bought time and time again, is the Clarions Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil – yes, I love it that much that I bought the salon size. Whenever my skin isn’t quite its best and nothing seems to be working for me, I use this and it always does the trick.

Also in the Glossybox X Sunday Riley beauty box was the much-loved Luna Sleeping Night Oil. This stuff is mega £££, but is definitely worth it. I have been using it every now and then as it is a Retinol and I have very sensitive skin and don’t want to use anything too harsh that may make my skin react. It has worked brilliantly on my skin and I will most definitely be buying the full-size product when I have used this one up.

serums and oils

So, those are the skincare bits that I have been loving and testing out lately.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette – Review and Swatches!

I’m sure by now you all know what this palette looks like, and most of you probably already own it but I couldn’t not dedicate a whole post to one of the most talked about palettes of the year.

This palette had been so hyped up (with good reason), and I’m not normally one to jump on the band wagon straight away, especially with eyeshadow palettes because I already own so many that I really have to justify needing wanting a new palette to add to my ever-growing collection.

I fell in love with the shades in this palette instantly, they are completely me and it was kinda inevitable that sooner or later I was gonna give in and buy it. I don’t actually have a palette like this, I have a few similar shades but most of them are unique to the rest of my collection. I’m also in love with the packaging! I know a few people have said it looks quite tacky but I LOVE it! It’s so retro and is something so different to the rest of the Naked palettes!

UD Packaging2

Although the palette was released as a Summer launch, I couldn’t help but feel slightly Autumnal when looking at it! The shades are great for all year round, but to me, warm tones and deep reds, coppers and burgundy just screams Autumn and Winter! I got this palette about 6 weeks ago and have used it everyday, and I just know that this palette will carry me through to the New Year too! I can’t wait to pair it with a deep red or burgundy lip, and create some gorgeous makeup looks for the Christmas season.

UD PALETTE.jpg

So, onto the what I think of the actual product…

The Urban Decay Naked palettes were some of the first I ever owned, and are kinda what made me fall in love with makeup in the first place, so I will always have a bit of a soft spot for them. However, since then the world of makeup has completely grown and expanded that products and brands have improved and things have naturally just gotten better, that I just tend to reach for other palettes over the first few Naked palettes. I still like them, but there are just better quality products out there, and they did tend to have a dudd shade or two.. BUT, this one has completely changed the game. All of the shades are creamy and buttery and blend like an absolute dream. The matte shades aren’t chalky or lack pigmentation, and there isn’t too much fall out from the shimmer shades. I can’t fault them at all in terms of formulation and pigmentation, and even though the palette is completely warm-toned, there are a good variety of shades, and a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades, too.

The only negative thing I have to say about this product, is that I think it is lacking a pale gold shimmer shade, to use as an inner corner/brow-bone highlight and to break up the darker shades a bit. BUT, other than that, I cannot fault this palette at all and I can see me getting alooooot of use out of it!

I love this palette, and would most definitely recommend it!

If any of you guys have this palette, let me know your thoughts on it too!

June and July Faves

So, seeing as I missed June faves time, I thought I would combine them with my July faves. This months favourites is a right mixed bag and quite a lengthy one so apologies in advance!

There are two concealers that I have been obsessed with lately and have used them every time I have worn makeup. One high-end, one drugstore. The first one is the much loved and talked about, NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer. If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll know that I’m not crazy about matte products, especially for my skin. I much prefer a glowy, dewy kinda look, so I was put off of this product for a while. But after checking it out for myself in store, and being on the hunt for a new concealer, I thought I’d give it a go. I honestly don’t know what I used before this? It’s THE best concealer I have tried to date. Do not be scared off by the name of it, it is nowhere near as matte as it is made out to be – but more of a velvety kinda finish, which I love. The coverage of this product is insanely good, it is super high coverage but doesn’t feel heavy or cakey in the slightest. It covers up everyyyyyything. I use this to cover any redness, or blemishes and to try and hide the darkness under my eyes to even out my skin tone a bit. It may look like there isn’t much product, but I have used this almost everyday and I’ve barely made a dent! This will last such a long time and I will most definitely be repurchasing!

The second concealer is the Rimmel Match Perfection Illuminating concealer. I use this after I have gone in with the NARS one and I use this to brighten under my eyes, and as kind of a highlighter I guess. I use it the same way I would use the YSL Touché Eclat as it has very similar qualities to that. I tend to apply this after I have done the rest of my makeup, particularly my eye makeup as it tidies and sharpens it up a bit, making sure there is no fall-out from the shadows, and I find it really enhances the rest of the look. As much as I love the Touché Eclat, I tend to reach for this one a little bit more as it has that bit of extra coverage! I need to buy a back up of this asap!

My foundation favourite this month, is something I didn’t expect to like as much as I do and I’m not sure why. I think because most of my favourite foundations are high-end, and this one is very affordable, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! This is the Milani Conceal and Perfect 2-in-1 foundation in the shade 02. I ordered this online and just guessed my shade and luckily it is the perfect shade for me during the summer. The coverage of this foundation is absolutely incredible, and gives the most natural looking finish. I apply this using my Real Techniques Stippling Brush and find that this gives the best finish. This is very similar to the Clinique 2-in-1 beyond perfection foundation, so if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative then I would definitely recommend this! I have used this most days throughout June and July, and when I haven’t used it on its own, I have mixed it with other products to give better coverage. I cannot fault this product at all!

Something I’ve never really been into before is brown eyeliner. Not sure why, I just usually reach for black, but when I was going through my makeup stash, I realised I was lacking a brown eyeliner so I went and picked one up! I can’t believe I have never used this before! The one I picked up was the Bourjois Kohl and Contour, and I apply it roughly to my top lash line, smoke it out a bit using my Zoeva Smudger Brush, pop on my mascara and I’m good to go! It is so much softer than black which can sometimes look a bit too harsh, and this is perfect when you haven’t really got time for eyeshadow or just can’t be bothered and is something just a bit different! I have been wearing this non-stop for about 3 weeks and I’m still loving it!

The Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream is something I have spoke about before so I won’t go on too much. But this is the most amazing moisturiser everrrrr. I have tried and tested so many in the past because I have been blessed with the most awkward skin, and I can’t find one better than this. My skin is oily, yet dehydrated so most moisturisers tend to just sink into my skin straight away and within five minutes, it’s back to how it was before. But this moisturiser keeps my skin feeling amazing all day. If I’m having a makeup free day, and I put this on in the morning, by the time I come to do my evening skincare routine, my skin still feels soft and hydrated. Honestly, just go buy it. I’m gonna buy the supersize version as backup for when I run out of this one! They also do an SPF version too!

Last month, the lovely people over at Palmer’s ever so kindly sent me a few products from the new coconut oil range. I love body oils, so was suuuuper excited to try this one out. And ohmygoodness!!!! 1) it smells like summer in a bottle?! 2) it leaves your skin feeling insanely soft and hydrated, but not at all sticky! WIN. This will definitely be coming on holiday with me!

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this product in a blog post before, and I have no idea why because I literally use it every single day. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in the shade Luminous Light is the only powder I will use to set my face. This sets makeup amazingly, and gives the most gorgeous glow. I was a bit hesitant at first because from first glance, it does look a bit like a highlighter but it just makes your skin looking incredible! I have used this every day for about a year now, and although I have hit pan, there is so much product left! I know Hourglass products are pricey, but this one is definitely worth the slightly hefty price tag!

Now, an actual highlighter. People have raved about MAC highlighters for years, but only recently have I tried one. I picked up MAC’s Mineralise Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle. It gives such a lovely glow, and is the perfect colour for my skin tone! And the pan is absolutely huge, I have no idea how I’m ever going to get through it all!

That’s all for this favourites post! I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to like and follow my blog!

Space NK Haul & First Impressions!

feat pic spacenk haul.jpg

As most of you know, Jake and I went to Brighton for a couple of days last month to celebrate our five year anniversary.

So, while we were there, it was only right that I went to Space NK. I actually went in twice, once on the first day, and again on the second day to buy the things I was too indecisive to buy the day before. I bought a bit more than I was intending to, but I am super happy with all of my purchases.

So, the first thing I picked up is something I have wanted to try for ages now, but nowhere near me stocks it and I didn’t want to just risk it and guess my shade. This is the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. Everybody has been raving about it, so I couldn’t wait to finally get my hands on it and try it out. There was a Makeup Artist from Laura Mercier in store this day, and I’m sure his name was Hugo and he was super nice! He matched me up to the right shade, told me the best ways to apply this and how to make it last the longest. Is there anything better than good customer service? Anyway, on to the actual product.. this creates the perfect base, especially for the warmer months, plus it has SPF 20! It evens out my skin, giving a lightweight, glowy base which is something I am really into at the moment. I’m not really enjoying using foundation on my skin, so I have been reaching for BB creams, and tinted moisturisers instead and it just seems to be working much better with my skin. So far, I am loving this tinted moisturiser. I find it applies best when I use my fingers, finishing off with a slightly damp beauty blender.

The next thing is the OUAI Wave Spray. I mentioned this in a recent post about how I achieve messy, beachy waves, here. I wanted to pick up one of the full-sized bottles, but they didn’t sell it, so I picked up the travel-size instead. I have heard such good things about this brand, and I can see why! This product has really helped with the way I style my hair and makes such a difference! I spray it through the mid-lengths and ends of my hair after I have curled it, and it gives it the most gorgeous wavy texture, without leaving it feeling sticky, or crunchy like some others do. And, it smells INCREDIBLE. There a few other things I have my eye on from OUAI, like the Dry Shampoo Foam, Hair Oil and the Texturising Hairspray, so I will definitely pick these up when I can!

ouai wave spray.jpg

The next few things I went back the next day to pick up because there was so much I wanted to try out but knew I had to be a little bit sensible with my spending! Kiehl’s is a brand I have always wanted to try out, but there aren’t any stores near me that sell it, and I’m one of those people that wants to try out a bit on the back of their hand before they buy it. I picked up the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, the Ultra Facial Cream and the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I won’t ramble on too much about these products, because I’m gonna do a proper review on them in a separate blog post. But just know they’re fab, made huge differences to my skin and I LOVE them all!

kiehls3.jpg

I already know that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is going to be a firm staple in my evening skincare routine. It has the most gorgeous Lavender scent to it, making it perfect to apply before bed. It isn’t greasy, and I wake up with the most luminous, glowing skin.

kiehls mrc

I had conjunctivitis not too long ago, and since then my eyes have been extremely dry and my makeup just hasn’t sat the same under and around my eyes since. That was until I tried the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado – GAME CHANGER.

kiehls avocado

The Ultra Facial Cream is the perfect moisturiser to use in the mornings as it keeps my skin so incredibly soft and hydrated all day long, and is the perfect base for primer and makeup. These products have now made me want to try soooo much more from this brand, particularly the Midnight Recovery Cleansing Oil, Daily Reviving Concentrate and the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque.

I hope you enjoyed that little haul. Let me know if you have tried any of these products, and what you think of them, also if you have any other recommendations for me?

Zoeva Makeup Artist Zoe Bag: Review

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing well!

Today, I am going to be reviewing the Rose Golden vol.3 Makeup Artist Zoe Bag.

First of all, how beautiful are these brushes?! They are so aesthetically pleasing, and really are the most gorgeous brushes I have EVER seen.

brushes bag

My Mum bought me my first proper set of makeup brushes, around two, or three years ago and they were also Zoeva. Since then, I have tried many different brands of makeup brushes, and none of them seem to compare to the Zoeva ones. I still have the ones that my Mum bought me and they are still going strong today. I just decided to update my makeup brushes with a bit more variety.

As well as the brushes, you get the most beautiful box that it arrives in, along with quite a large, but extremely useful makeup bag that I have actually used so much! It’s big enough to fit in all of my makeup brushes, and my everyday makeup! Perfect for travelling, weekends away, or overnight stays.

zoeva boxbagbag 1bag2bag3

This set consists of 30 brushes. 15 face brushes including;

90 Luxe Grand Powder, 101 Luxe Face Definer, 104 Buffer, 105 Luxe Highlight, 109 Luxe Face Paint, 110 Face Shape, 112 Face Curve, 114 Luxe Face Focus, 125 Stippling, 126 Luxe Cheek Finish, 127 Luxe Sheer Cheek, 129 Luxe Fan, 132 Luxe Powder Finish, 134 Luxe Powder Fusion, 142 Concealer Buffer.

And, 15 eye and lip brushes including;

220 Luxe Grand Shader, 223 Petit Eye Blender, 225 Luxe Eye Blender, 226 Smudger, 227 Luxe Soft Definer, 228 Luxe Crease, 231 Luxe Petit Crease, 233 Cream Shader, 234 Luxe Smoky Shader, 235 Contour Shader, 238 Luxe Precise Shader, 315 Fine Liner, 317 Wing Liner, 322 Brow Line, 330 Lip Contour.

brushes5brushes7brushes6

Since taking the photos for this post, I can honestly say that these were SO worth the money. The brushes cost £200, but are crazyyyy good quality and they wash so well! I’m always slightly concerned when washing white makeup brushes, just incase they stain and leave the brushes looking slightly dingy. I wash them with Johnson’s’ Baby Shampoo and it works wonders!

If you’re looking to buy some new makeup brushes, I would 100000% recommend these brushes, or any brushes from Zoeva. They are really worth the money, and last such a long time.

If you have tried any Zoeva brushes before, let me know what you think of them! And, if you have any other suggestions for me, please let me know!

Bedroom Tour!

Recently, we moved house so my bedroom has been complete redone and decorated, with a new colour scheme, new furniture, the lot. I am super happy with how my bedroom looks, so I thought I would share it with you, whether it’s to give a bit of inspiration for your current bedrooms or if it’s just to have a bit of a nose! I will link everything I can at the bottom of this post!

The theme, and colour scheme for my bedroom is grey, white, dusky pink with rose gold/copper accessories. Three of the walls are painted plain white, and the main wall, where my dressing table is, has been painted a pink, white and grey pattern by my very talented Mum!

My dressing table holds my makeup brushes, which are of course Zoeva, and I keep them in the Zoella Lifestyle storage pots. They go perfectly in my bedroom and are perfect for storing makeup brushes! I have a little copper pineapple, which is actually a candle from Primark, and my No7 mirror. I also have some lightbulb fairy lights along the back, which are from Primark.

I have a bedside table either side of my bed, one with a lamp, and a little calendar, the other with an alarm clock and a little copper pot filled with sweets and treats! And above my bed is a large copper clock. Most of my bedding is from Primark and Matalan. Both of these places are incredible for homeware and are such good quality too!

On the far right hand side of my room, are my Alex drawers which houses most of my makeup and skincare products. On top of this, is a carnival light in the letter M, an artificial plant, a couple of my favourite reads with my all-time fave perfume, Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom.

alex drawerstop of alex drawers

Opposite this, is my wardrobe, with a couple of pink storage boxes which holds bits and pieces I don’t really need out, and old photographs, memories, etc. The wardrobe has two sliding doors, with shelves inside, and four drawers – it is actually huuuuge! Next to my wardrobe is a small set of drawers which houses all of my Lush bath bombs – (yes, I have that many that I need a separate set of drawers just for them!). And next to this is a chest of drawers, with my wireless bluetooth speaker on top, and my TV and sound bar on the wall opposite my bed.

And, on my windowsill are a couple of cacti which are just too cute.

Beauty Haul!

I have missed a good ol’ haul!

I have taken some much needed time away from blogging, for the simple reason that life just got in the way. I had so much going on, mixed with uni deadlines, that unfortunately blogging just had to take a bit of a backseat. But I am back and I am so ready to get back into the blogging game, cos boy have I missed it!

Recently, I made a couple of online orders so I thought I would share with you, the bits and pieces that I got.

feat pic

Firstly, I visited feelunique.com, which is a very dangerous place for my bank account… They do absolutely EVERYTHING! I go on there to make a repurchase and end up filling my online basket to the brim!

I am really into sheet masks at the minute, so when I saw that Origins had released a wide range of Flower Fusion sheet masks, I had to get some! I love Origins as a brand as they are so organic and natural in terms of the ingredients they use in their products and everything I’ve tried works incredibly! I got four of the sheet masks; the Jasmine, that targets softening, Lavender for soothing, Violet for nourishing and Rose for hydrating. I haven’t tried these out yet, but I am so excited to use them and will no doubt order the rest of the range!

origins sheet masks

The next thing is also from Origins and this is the Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser. I have been using this product for well over a year now, and it is something I will continue to buy and buy again. It is incredible. I have such sensitive skin and this seems to be the only exfoliator than doesn’t react badly with my skin. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and refreshed, and I can really tell the difference when I haven’t used it for a day or two! This is a must-have for my daily skincare routine and I am never without a back-up in my skincare stash!

origins scrub

Recently, I have been ditching the foundation and have found myself opting for tinted moisturisers, and BB creams instead. I’m not entirely sure why, but my skin just seems to be working a lot better with a more lightweight base and I am loving it. There are two that I picked up. The first is the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in the shade Alaska. After hearing and reading many mixed reviews on this product, I decided to just give it a try as I have really enjoyed every other NARS product that I own.

NARS VMST

The second BB cream is the Clarins Skin Perfecting Cream in the shade 00 Fair. It has an SPF of 25, which is super useful now that we are well into Spring and fast approaching Summer. I have used this a few times and so far, I am absolutely loving it. It gives just enough coverage, it isn’t too sheer, and gives a light and even base and is definitely buildable. Perfect for this time of year.

clarins bb

Something else I picked up from Clarins was the Tonic Body Treatment Oil. After spending a weekend at Hoar Cross Hall, I decided that I needed to invest in a body oil, (or two)… My skin tends to really dry up during the summer and sometimes, moisturising just isn’t enough for me. So, I thought a body oil that I can apply after bathing/showering, or that I can apply to my bath water would do just the trick. And, so far, so good. Plus, it leaves my skin smelling insane!

clarins oil

The second body oil I picked up (because one clearly just wasn’t enough) was also from Hoar Cross Hall. We went to Hoar Cross Hall for a hen-weekend, and my aunt, and a few other the other girls had told me about this and after smelling it in the product shop, I couldn’t not buy it. This is the Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil. This has quite a sweet scent and I absolutely love it. It is the perfect scent for this time of year and leaves my skin feeling incredible. I think it is safe to say that I am now well and truly obsessed with body oils. They just work wonders! Next on my list is the Elemis Fortitude Bath and Shower Elixir *swoons*.

frangipani

The final few products I picked up from Debenhams. I picked up a couple of things that I had been eyeing up for a while. The first thing was the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I have only heard positive things about this mascara and was actually surprised that I hadn’t bought it before now. I haven’t tried this out yet, but I am super excited to use it!

better than sex mass

The next thing is the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow palette. I have been lusting over this palette for so long now that I just couldn’t resist it any longer. Too Faced are quite possibly my favourite brand when it comes to eyeshadows so I knew that this wouldn’t disappoint. I have been using this every day since I got it. The colours are gorgeous and are prefect for the transition into Spring and Summer. As with all Too Faced eyeshadows, all the shades are crazy pigmented and blend soooo easily! LOVE.

sweet peach eye

The final product is again, from Too Faced and this is the Sweet Peach Glow palette. I am ALLLL about that glowy, dewy skin at the minute so when I saw this, I immediately knew that I needed it and it was just what I needed to last me through the warmer months. I have recently gotten a lot more into blush and the blush shade in this palette is stunning and gives that perfect pop of colour. I have been using this palette every day and I am sure I will continue to do so throughout the rest of Spring and Summer!

sweet peach glow

That is all for this blog post! I hope you enjoyed it, don’t forget to like and follow! I am off to Brighton for a few days this week for mine and Jake’s 5-year anniversary so I will be taking lots of photos and writing a few posts on my trip so keep your eyes peeled for those!

I am also using Instagram Stories a lot more, and will be using is whilst in Brighton so be sure to follow me!

Love, Meg x
